Where I am coming from
Why I believe it's important to do our work
I believe that the structures and patterns that reside in the individual are a microcosm and reflection of the collective, and that our personal healing, liberation, and actualization are essential to the healing and evolution underway on our planet right now.
In seeking to address the imbalances and challenges in the greater body of humanity and the world, we must be willing to look at how these structures live within the microcosm of our own selves, our inner landscape, and the fabric of our most intimate relations - our partnerships, families, organizations, and communities. Unless we examine these individual and collective roots - the fears, divisiveness, disconnection and trauma in our own watersheds, and engage the healing that is needed there - we will struggle to bring our contributions forward and transform the systemic patterns we are trying to shift more globally.
Your unique gifts are essential and integral
The ecology of our bigger global body cannot actualize when the individual parts aren't whole. Each one of us is integral to our collective evolution and carries essential nutrients, information, and creative impulses for the healing and evolution of our world.
This means that exactly what YOU bring - your gifts, your unique contributions and visions - are incredibly important to all of us and to the future generations.
There is an essential contribution that emanates from the transformation of old patterns and the actualization of each of our individual gifts that benefits the whole. I see part of my role as a coach to call forward, support, encourage, and guide people in navigating the exploration of these structures within and in bringing your gifts more fully into the world. For your own actualization, yes... but ultimately in service to the interwoven web of life on earth.

My Background
The son of an opera singer and orchestra conductor, I was born and raised in Germany and moved to the United States at age 13. With early years as a sponsored table tennis player, rock musician, and adventurer-seeker, my passion for wild landscapes and their inhabitants led me to the University of California, Santa Cruz, where I delved into the world of ecology, conservation biology, natural history, and experiential education.
I spent many subsequent seasons serving as a wildlife biologist, naturalist, and course instructor for the University of California, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group, and the Pacific Crest Outward Bound School, among others. Those formative experiences led further into studies of nature awareness, spiritual practice, tracking, and permaculture and to an integration of insights from those fields into the realms of human development and leadership.
Since then, I have devoted over twenty years to providing guidance and leadership development pathways to individuals and organizations who want to be more effective in embodying the change they want to see in the world. Through personal coaching, consulting, and facilitation - and by creating safe and courageous spaces for authenticity, vulnerability, and creativity - I have helped hundreds of eco-social activists and entrepreneurs, sustainability professionals, non-profit leaders, managers, C-level executives, artists, and healers engage their purpose, vision, and leadership potential.
My background includes more than 20 years of professional coaching, consulting, and facilitation experience; trainer certification with the Center for Leadership Studies; coaching, counseling, and facilitation training with the Coaches Training Institute and Interchange Counseling Institute; certification in Permaculture Design from the Regenerative Design Institute, education at the Wilderness Awareness School and Tracker School and training in cross-cultural facilitation. I hold dual bachelors degrees – in Conservation Biology and Environmental Studies - from the University of California, Santa Cruz, to which I later returned as Sustainability Coordinator to facilitate the development of the campus’ first formal sustainability plan.
Since 2022, I have served as Strategy Manager in the Office of Sustainability at Stanford University, and continue to provide limited leadership and life coaching, facilitation, and consulting support as I am able. Over the years, I have been lecturer, collaborator, and presenter at numerous local, regional, as well as national conferences and institutions - such as Bioneers, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the California Sustainability in Higher Education Conference, and Permaculture Convergences - on topics of sustainability, change-management, inner permaculture, and heart, community, and nature-inspired leadership.
I reside in the San Francisco Bay Area with my wife, partner-in-vision, and fellow EOL Co-Director, Katia Sol, and three amazing boys aged 4, 14, and 17.
